Useful information when applying for a promotion

The following formal criteria must be fulfilled before you can apply for a promotion in an academic position

Promotion to all positions (except university lecturer):

  • You must have joined your position at OsloMet

  • You must have a permanent or fixed term position

  • Your current position must be at least 50%

  • If you have applied for a promotion earlier you will have to wait 2 years to apply again

  • You can only apply for promotion within the field of study in which you are appointed at OsloMet

For promotion to professor the following additional criteria apply:

  • The 2 year quarantine period applies even if you have withdrawn your application

  • If a position as professor in your specialty has been announced at OsloMet, the 2 year quarantine period will also apply (from the application deadline)

In order to apply for promotion to professor you have to be in a position as associate professor (førsteamanuensis).

In order to apply for promotion to dosent you have to be in a position as førstelektor.

It is no longer possible to apply for a transfer between the positions as førstelektor and førsteamanuensis (as of 15th September, 2015), even if you have attained a Ph.D.

If you have applied for a position at another university/university college in Norway and wish to use the competency assessment you attained there as grounds for you application for a promotion at OsloMet, be aware that:

  • You may only apply for promotion once the decision of appointment has been made at the other institution

  • It is a prerequisite that a final decision of appointment has in fact been made at the other institution – this means that should you be the only qualified applicant to the position you need to ‘finish the race’ and be offered the position before you can use the competency assessment to apply for a promotion.

  • OsloMet can choose not to acknowledge competency assessments for other institutions. You should check with your HR section if the institution has been acknowledged earlier. If it has not, the appointment board will make a general assessment of the other institutions and make sure it has the same the criteria as OsloMet for equivalent positions. The board will also consider the competency assessment towards your field of study at OsloMet.

Be sure to be have all your documentation ready before admitting your application as documentation cannot be submitted after your application has been sent (applies to applications for promotion to professor and dosent).

For promotion in research positions the following applies:

  • You must be in a permanent, fixed term or externally financed position of at least 3 years duration (promotion to researcher code 1183) / at least 2 years duration (promotion to researcher code 1109) beyond the date for application for promotion

  • You can only apply for promotion within the field of study in which you are appointed at OsloMet

  • If you have applied for a promotion earlier you will have to wait 2 years to apply again

  • If you wish to use a competency assessment to professor as grounds for you application the assessment must be explicitly unanimous and indubitable

  • The application deadline for applications to researcher code 1183 is 1 May each year

  • You may not submit any documentation after your application has been sent
