Ergonomics / workplace adaptation

Ergonomics is an adaptation between the working environment / working technology and man. Good workplace adaptation can help prevent musculoskeletal disorders.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders / strain injuries is one of the biggest single causes of absenteeism in the working life and has serious economic consequences for the companies. The legislation imposes requirements on the employer for mapping and risk assessment of factors that may affect employees’ health, as well as for adaption and training in appropriate work techniques.

The workplace must be adapted so as to provide each employee with natural and appropriate work positions / movements and with the opportunity for variation in the work. Equipment should be adjustable so that it can be adapted to the needs of the individual, and appropriate tools should be available when needed.

HiOA wishes to perform good preventive work on this area and uses physiotherapists / occupational therapists from the Occupational Health Service for the ergonomic assessment of the workplace.

Contact your immediate manager if you need ergonomic assistance from the Occupational Health Service.

The Occupational Health Service can also provide education about ergonomics for groups of employees.
