Crediting authors and contributors

The main rule for crediting institutions in a scientific publication:

  1. An institution must be listed as an author in a publication if it has provided a necessary contribution to - or the basis for - an author's contribution to the published work.
  2. Other institutions must also be credited as authors if they fulfill the requirement in point 1.
  3. An employment or supervisory responsibility may be considered as the basis for crediting an institution if the requirement in point 1 is fulfilled.

Crediting HiOA employees

When an employee at HiOA is the sole author or co-author of a publication, the author's address must be "Oslo and Akershus University College ", "HiOA" or "Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences", provided that the publication is a product of work performed in his/her position at HiOA.

The sub-units' name (faculties, institutes, centers, etc.) may also be included if desired.

The same author must also credit other institutions in the publication if the requirement in point 1 of the main rule is met.

When using two or more institutional author addresses, these must be listed as follows: "Oslo and Akershus University College and XXX Institution", or the equivalent in other languages.

The address where the author has his/her main position must be listed first.

Crediting candidates for HiOA's PhD programmes

PhD candidates employed at HiOA must list HiOA as the author address, as must other academic staff, provided that the publication is a product of work performed in the person's position at HiOA.

The same author must also credit other institutions in the publication if the requirement in point 1 of the main rule is met.

Externally employed PhD candidates must list HiOA as the author address if HiOA has provided a necessary and significant contribution to - or the basis for - the published work. An active execution of supervisor responsibility on the relevant publication is considered as an adequate contribution.

The same author must also list the main employer's address on publications, if the requirement in point 1 of the main rule is met.

Crediting externally paid researchers associated with HiOA

In accordance with good practice for crediting collaboration partners we ask each individual unit to encourage externally paid researchers to include "Oslo and Akershus University College" as an author address if the requirement in point 1 of the main rule has been met.
