Copyright in teaching

How to use copyright protected material when teaching.

Text

You may use:

  • Text extracts like quotes as long as you follow good practice. Remember to credit the copyright holder.
  • text shared through a free license as long as the use is within the terms of the license - such as Creative Commons
  • text for which you have clarified the use with the copyright holder.
  • Text used internally in OsloMet’s teaching and where the use is within the terms of the Kopinor agreement (English version)

Images

You may use:

  • photos from OsloMet's Flickr account. Remember to credit the photographer.
  • Images that you have been granted permission to use from the copyright holder.
  • Images published with a free licence, such as Creative Commons. Remember to credit the originator - even if the image is marked with Public Domain.
  • Images from books or websites used in lectures and presentations sa long as the use is within the terms of the Kopinor agreement (English version)

Remember

If you are to use your own photos of other persons, you must obtain permission from the persons depicted.

Film

You may use:

  • films made available through HiOA Film.
  • films published with a free license, such as the Creative Commons.
  • Quotes from films if the clip is to be the starting point for discussion or critical analysis.
  • recordings of NRK programmes for use in teaching if in accordance with the terms of the agreement with Norwaco.

Remember

Please note that not everyone who publishes films with a CC license (e.g. on YouTube) has clarified the use of the contents of the film. If it is obvious that the film shows illegal content, do not use it.

Audio

You may use:

  • music shared through a free license, such as Creative Commons.
  • recordings of NRK programmes for use in teaching if in accordance with the terms of the agreement with Norwaco.
