Connect to file server – Mac

How to connect to your file server, i.e. home (H:) and public directory (K:). And other applications for access using SSH/SFTP.

The following must be met:

You will be able to work as if you are on OsloMet's network if:

  1. your computer have access to Internet.
  2. and if you connect your PC to VPN for OsloMet's internal resources and services.

1. VPN connection for Mac

The computer must be connected to VPN.

Go to: VPN connection for Mac.

2. Connect to file server with an app

2.1 Install app

  1. Download and install the app: Koble til HiOA servere (hioa.box.com)
  2. From Dock, click on: Koble til HiOA servere (only in Norwegian).

2.2 Username and password

1. Enter your OsloMet user name.

Example:

  • For employees: britth

2. Click: OK.

3. OsloMet password

  • Enter your OsloMet password.
  • Click: OK.

2.3 Access to server

See Finder: Home and public directory, your file folders, becomes visible.

2.4 Log off / Disconnect

Open Finder:

  • Disconnect a server by clicking on the up-right arrow in Finder.

3. Connect to file server with Finder

3.1 Open Finder

1. Enter: CMD + K on the keyboard

  • A new window is visible: Connect to Server.

3.2 Connect to server

1. Enter your file server address under Server Address: smb://server name/OsloMet username

  • Example file server address: smb://salina.hioa.no/britth
  • Find your file server name - Login and select "Access to servers from outside OsloMet's network" from the menu.

2. Click: Connect.

3.3 Connect to public directory (for staff)

1. Enter the server address for public directory under Server Address: : smb://malta.hioa.no (Note! No username required).

  • Example server address for employees: smb://malta.hioa.no

2. Click: Connect.

3.3.1 Files
  1. Select access to: Filer
  2. Click: OK

3.4 Username and password

A. For a OsloMet computer

1. Select: Registered user

2. Enter: OsloMet username and OsloMet password.

Example:

  • For employees: britth

3. Tick: "Remember this password in my keychain" - the computer will remember the future login.

4. Click on: Connect.

B. For a private computer

1. Select: Registered user

2. Enter: OsloMet username@ada.hioa.no and OsloMet password.

Example:

  • For employees: britth@ada.hioa.no

3. Tick: "Remember this password in my keychain" - the computer will remember the future login.

4. Click on: Connect.

3.5 Access to server

Go to Finder: Home and/or public directory, your file folders, becomes visible.

3.6. Disconnect / log off

Open Finder:

  • Disconnect a server by clicking on the up-right arrow in Finder.

4. Connect to file server with SSH/SFTP

OsloMet servers are based on Linux operating system and this makes it possible to connect to SSH/SFTP without using VPN. What is SSH/SFTP? (en.wikipedia.org/)

Applies to home (H:) and public directory (K:) for employees.

5. Overview of file servers

  1. Find your file server (bitadmin.hioa.no)
  2. Login and select from the left menu: "Access to servers from outside HiOA's network".
